Wike Pushes Grassroots Mobilisation for Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Election
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has asked political and community leaders in Rivers State to build wider support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election. At a meeting in Obio-Akpor, he also repeated his pledge to leave office if Tinubu loses both Rivers State and the FCT.

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has stepped up political mobilisation in Rivers State, asking leaders in Obio-Akpor to organise support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
During a meeting with stakeholders from Akpor Kingdom on Friday, Wike called for a campaign structure that reaches beyond politicians. He said traditional rulers, religious figures and other community stakeholders should also be involved because they form part of the voting population.
Part of the strategy discussed at the gathering focused on Wards 15, 16 and 17 in Obio-Akpor. Wike said the three wards contain more than 200 polling units and instructed political leaders to identify coordinators and people who would canvass voters from one household to another.
Wike also repeated a commitment he had made earlier concerning the presidential election. He said he would resign as FCT minister if Tinubu failed to win both Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
Explaining his renewed involvement in Rivers politics, the former governor said his objective was to contribute to the state and expand the political support available to his allies. He urged politicians to move beyond previous disagreements and work with a broader range of people ahead of the election.
Wike also reflected on his earlier political career in Obio-Akpor, where he served as council chairman. He said his relationship with residents and what he described as the impact of his administration contributed to his election for a second term after the council was created in 1989.
He added that he intends to continue scrutinising the performance of elected local government officials in Rivers State, describing the role he plans to play as that of a critic of the state government structure.
The meeting forms part of Wike's continuing effort to organise political support for Tinubu in Rivers ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
