Olola Daniel, younger brother of former Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel, has declared support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, in the 2027 governorship race and has urged voters to concentrate on candidates’ qualifications and public records rather than disputes over ancestry.

Daniel, who convenes Ogun Progressive People and the Progressive People Diaspora Coalition for YAYI, set out his position in a statement on Sunday. He alleged that political opponents were giving greater attention to questions about Adeola’s ancestry in an effort to distract from his governorship campaign. The source does not establish that allegation as fact or identify the opposition figures Daniel was referring to.

Drawing on his family’s political experience, Daniel said similar questions were raised when his elder brother sought the Ogun governorship in 2003. He argued that the present campaign should instead examine issues including governance, accountability, development priorities, professional experience and proposals for the state. He also maintained that Adeola satisfies the constitutional conditions for contesting the election, though that was Daniel’s stated position rather than an independent legal determination presented in the report.

Daniel said his support for Adeola was influenced by the senator’s record in public office, legislative experience and development agenda. He expressed confidence that an Adeola administration would pursue policies intended to improve residents’ welfare and expand development at community level. He further said he expected such an administration to build on initiatives associated with incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun while introducing additional policies responding to residents’ needs.

According to Daniel, Ogun Progressive People has operated as a political support organisation since 2022 and has structures across the state. He said the diaspora coalition supporting Yayi emerged after consultations involving Ogun indigenes living outside Nigeria who wanted Adeola considered for the governorship. The two organisations are now working together to support Adeola and other All Progressives Congress candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

Daniel described their activities as including voter engagement, awareness campaigns, collaboration and grassroots mobilisation. He also connected his political involvement with community and humanitarian work carried out through his Faith-in-Kindness Foundation, which he said has supported students with school fees and assisted people facing hardship.

His endorsement adds another organised support effort around Adeola’s governorship campaign while the ancestry dispute remains part of Ogun’s political conversation. Daniel’s central argument is that the 2027 contest should be decided through scrutiny of candidates’ records, capabilities and policy choices rather than claims concerning family origin.
