NAHCON, NSCDC Deepen Security Coordination for 2027 Hajj
NAHCON and the NSCDC are expanding security and crowd-control coordination as Nigeria prepares for a larger 2027 Hajj allocation.

Nigeria's Hajj authorities are strengthening security planning ahead of the 2027 pilgrimage, with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps renewing cooperation on pilgrim safety and crowd control.
The renewed coordination followed a visit by NSCDC Commandant-General Ahmed Audi to NAHCON Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ismail Yusuf at the Hajj House in Abuja. Details of the engagement were disclosed in a statement issued by NAHCON through Shafii Mohammed, who heads the commission's Information and Publications Division.
According to the commission, discussions between the two organisations focused on improving the management of large pilgrim movements, strengthening security arrangements and ensuring better coordination during Hajj operations. The talks were also aimed at sustaining existing cooperation between NAHCON and the civil defence corps as preparations continue for future pilgrimages.
Audi expressed support for the commission's leadership and the changes being pursued under Yusuf. The NSCDC chief also gave an assurance that the corps would continue working with NAHCON in areas connected to the safety of Nigerian pilgrims and the orderly conduct of Hajj activities.
Yusuf, in response, welcomed the continued relationship with the security agency. He said NAHCON remained committed to maintaining and improving its partnership with the NSCDC as part of efforts to support safe and properly coordinated pilgrimage operations for Nigerians.
The discussions come as Nigeria prepares to accommodate more pilgrims during the 2027 Hajj. On October 1, Saudi Arabia approved an additional 10,000 places for Nigeria, increasing the country's allocation from 50,000 to 60,000 pilgrims.
The higher allocation places additional attention on the systems used to organise Nigerian pilgrims, particularly where large numbers of people must be moved and managed safely. The latest engagement between NAHCON and the NSCDC therefore centres on the security and operational responsibilities both agencies expect to coordinate as preparations for the 2027 exercise progress.
