The Lagos State Government is positioning its 2026 Energy Summit as a platform for attracting private investment into the state's electricity market, with discussions expected to focus on opportunities across generation, transmission and distribution. The second edition of the summit is scheduled for November 10 and 11 at the Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources Biodun Ogunleye said the gathering will bring together policymakers, regulators, investors, development partners, industry leaders and innovators. The event, themed "Lagos Energy Evolution: Transforming the Future," was initially planned for September but was moved to November to allow additional preparation.

A major part of the programme will examine the implementation of the Lagos State Electricity Law, 2024, and what the legislation means for private-sector participation in the state's electricity industry. Ogunleye said the summit will provide an opportunity to assess changes recorded in the sector since the law was enacted while identifying areas where strategic partnerships and investment could produce measurable results.

The state government also expects discussions to address the regulatory environment required for a dependable and sustainable electricity market. Renewable energy, electricity infrastructure, decentralised generation and energy investment are among the subjects listed for consideration. Participants will also examine how improvements in the power sector could support Lagos' ambition to develop a 24-hour economy.

The summit's programme will include plenary discussions, technical masterclasses, investment roundtables, exhibitions and business-to-business meetings. According to the state government, these sessions are intended to give participants opportunities to explore possible partnerships, memoranda of understanding and other investment arrangements connected with Lagos' energy market.

Participants are also expected to take part in technical visits to selected energy infrastructure projects. The government said the visits are designed to provide practical exposure to energy developments currently taking place in the state. Through the summit, Lagos is seeking to connect its evolving electricity regulations with investment opportunities and sustainable energy solutions while bringing public and private-sector participants into discussions on the future of the state's power market.
