The Kano State Police Command says two men have been arrested over the alleged armed theft of a commercial tricycle in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.

Police named the detainees as 27-year-old Abubakar Isah and 25-year-old Shehu Ibrahim. Both were described by the command as residents of Zogarawa Village in Dawakin Kudu.

According to police spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna, the arrests were made on Saturday, October 3, along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway after officers investigating a complaint traced the missing vehicle.

The case began with a report made by Nasiru Ibrahim on September 30. Police said Ibrahim told them that some passengers hired his tricycle in Hotoro Quarters for a journey to Yar Gaya, with an agreed fare of ₦8,000.

During the journey, the passengers allegedly produced locally made firearms and threatened the driver before taking the tricycle. Police further alleged that Ibrahim was taken into nearby bushland and kept there while those involved left with the vehicle.

Officers from the Filin Hockey Police Division subsequently began searching for the tricycle on the instruction of Kano State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

The command said the vehicle was located in Wudil Local Government Area along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway at about 1:30pm on October 3. Police reported recovering two locally made guns in addition to the tricycle during the operation.

Haruna said the two arrested men admitted involvement during police questioning. That account is an allegation from the police investigation and does not amount to a court finding.

The command has asked other people who may have experienced similar tricycle robberies around the Hotoro, Dawakin Kudu and Wudil corridor to contact the Filin Hockey Police Division or the officer handling the investigation.
