Gamescom 2026 brought hundreds of thousands of gaming fans to Cologne, with major reveals including a new Witcher 3 expansion, Alien: Isolation 2, Fable and fresh looks at Tomb Raider and Silent Hill.
Gamescom returned to Cologne in a big way in 2026, bringing together some of the world's biggest publishers, developers and gaming communities for several days of new announcements, playable demos and previews of upcoming titles.
The event attracted 368,000 visitors from 131 countries, according to Gamescom organisers, while 1,743 companies from 66 countries exhibited across the show floor. Among the biggest talking points was the return of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. CD Projekt Red presented Songs of the Past, a new full expansion that brings Geralt of Rivia back for another adventure. The expansion takes players to the realm of Letten and introduces new quests, locations and a supernatural mystery, while a remastered version of the main game will also bring visual, performance and gameplay improvements. Both the expansion and remastered content are planned for 2027. gamescom
The Witcher had a particularly strong showing at the event. It collected three Gamescom awards, including Best Trailer or Announcement for the remaster and Songs of the Past, Best Merch, and the jury award for Best Booth. gamescom
Horror fans also got a closer look at Alien: Isolation 2, the long-awaited sequel to Creative Assembly's survival horror game. SEGA describes the sequel as another single-player survival experience in which a research team on a distant colony encounters a deadly threat after discovering a crashed vessel. Another major attraction was Fable, Playground Games' new take on the long-running fantasy role-playing series. Gamescom gave players and media one of the clearest looks yet at its combat, with melee attacks, ranged weapons and magic designed to flow together during battles. The game also returns players to Albion with a new open world built around decisions, reputation and the series' familiar British humour. XBOX Wire
Fable is scheduled for 23 February 2027, with an earlier February 18 start for Premium Edition early-access players. It is planned for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and cloud gaming, and will be included with Game Pass. XBOX Wire
Lara Croft was also part of the Gamescom lineup with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. The title reimagines Lara's original adventure with modern technology and redesigned areas, puzzles and gameplay. At Gamescom, members of the press were shown updated sections of the game, while developers Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog also presented previously unseen footage. The game is due on 12 February 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. Tomb Raider
The horror lineup continued with Silent Hill: Townfall, which moves the series to the remote Scottish setting of St. Amelia. The game follows Simon Ordell as he returns to the isolated community and begins uncovering its disturbing past. Konami used Gamescom Opening Night Live to show more of the title and reveal members of its cast. Konami
Gamescom 2026 was not only about major studios. Games Done Quick, known for speedrunning events that raise money for charitable causes, also made its first in-person European appearance at Gamescom. The three-day programme brought speedrunners together in Cologne while raising funds for the Gaming for Democracy initiative. Gamescom later presented GDQ with its Heart of Gaming Award. gamescom
