Friedkin Group Weighs New Investment Options as Everton Ownership Review Begins
Everton owner The Friedkin Group is exploring investment options that could include selling its controlling stake in the club.

Everton could undergo another ownership change after The Friedkin Group confirmed that it is examining new investment possibilities, including an option that would transfer control of the Premier League club to another party.
The Texas-based group disclosed the review on Friday. Its ownership of Everton began in December 2024, when it acquired Farhad Moshiri's 94.1 per cent holding in a transaction reported to be worth £400 million, or about $529 million. The group also owns Italian Serie A side Roma.
Since completing the Everton deal, The Friedkin Group has overseen a significant period of transition for the Merseyside club, including its relocation from Goodison Park to the 53,000-capacity Hill Dickinson Stadium. In explaining why ownership options are now being considered, the group said Everton was dealing with substantial financial and sporting difficulties when it arrived but believes a stronger foundation has since been established.
The owners indicated that any interested party would be assessed according to whether it could responsibly guide Everton through its next phase. The announcement does not mean a sale has been completed, and the source does not identify any prospective buyer or provide a timetable for the review.
On the pitch, Everton have placed 13th in each of the last two Premier League seasons under manager David Moyes. The ownership group nevertheless faced criticism following the most recent summer transfer window. A proposed move for United States forward Folarin Balogun collapsed late in the window, leaving Thierno Barry as the club's only recognised striker, according to the source.
Questions have also been raised about the relationship between the ownership and Everton's football management. In September, Moyes said he had neither met nor spoken with Friedkin Group chief executive Dan Friedkin. The source also reports that Friedkin had not attended an Everton home match at that point.
Everton remain one of English football's historically successful clubs. They have won nine top-flight championships, placing them fifth on the all-time list behind Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City. Their most recent league title came in 1987, while their last major trophy was the FA Cup in 1995.
The current process therefore represents a review rather than a confirmed exit by The Friedkin Group. Whether it results in additional investment, a partial change in ownership or the transfer of a controlling interest has not yet been determined.
