Bauchi Police Arrest 24-Year-Old Suspect Three Months After Fatal Stabbing
The Bauchi State Police Command says it has arrested a 24-year-old man wanted in connection with the death of a resident of Karofin Madaki in Bauchi metropolis.
Police identified the suspect as Abdulrazak Sale Kundang, also known as “Abba Sale Police.”
According to the command, Kundang was taken into custody on October 5, 2026, exactly three months after the incident that led to the death of 46-year-old Rilwanu Dauda. Punch Newspapers
Police allege July attack
Bauchi Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib said the original incident occurred on July 5 at about 9:30am.
Police allege that Dauda, a resident of Karofi, was attacked and stabbed with a knife by Kundang and other individuals described by the command as members of a gang.
Dauda was subsequently taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where police said a doctor pronounced him dead at about 11am that day. Punch Newspapers
These claims remain allegations from the police investigation and have not been established by a court.
Suspects reportedly fled after incident
Following Dauda’s death, police said those allegedly involved left the area and were placed on the command’s watchlist.
The command said investigators continued searching for them during the following three months.
According to Habib, officers attached to the ‘A’ Division, Township, eventually acted on information supplied by a member of the public and arrested Kundang on October 5. NewsclickNG
Police described him as the principal suspect in the investigation.
Other people suspected of involvement have not yet been arrested, according to the command.
Police make separate allegation about earlier killing
The Bauchi State Police Command also alleged that the suspects had previously been linked to another killing it described as politically motivated in the same area.
However, the available reporting does not provide details of that separate case or show that any court has established such involvement.
For Aviora, that allegation should therefore remain clearly attributed to the police rather than presented as a proven criminal history. Crime Fighters
Investigation continues
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu praised officers involved in the arrest and directed investigators to carry out a thorough investigation.
The commissioner also ordered that the case be taken to court after the investigation is completed.
Police say efforts are continuing to locate the remaining suspects. Punch Newspapers
As of the latest available reports, no final court ruling has been announced in the case.
The arrest therefore represents a step in the investigation rather than a determination of guilt.
